The Things I Didn’t Say

By Caleigh - Coach

HDAHLC-1217ow do you let the people you love, know that you love them? We all have different ways in which we show feelings and emotion. Even more, we show our emotions in different ways to different people in our lives. As we get older, I would venture to say that it’s not all that often that we outright tell people that we love them or care about them. It might seem awkward or too forward, especially if it’s someone that isn’t family. But think about how it feels to hear someone say that they love you or care about you? To me, there’s no better feeling.

Growing up, I never quite understood why people would always say that you will regret the things that you don’t say more than the things that you do say. There were plenty of things that I imagined myself saying to people that made me regret even thinking about saying them, for fear of rejection or feeling silly. Now that I’m older, I look back on some of those situations and wish more than anything I had spoken up. I missed my opportunity. All too often, I think we assume and tell ourselves that people know how we feel, so as not to actually have to voice our feelings. But would it be worth feeling a little uncomfortable for that one second to just say it? Think about past situations in your life – family, friends, and relationships. Is there anyone that you wish you had said more to? This week, take the time to tell someone how much they mean to you, one more time than you normally would. And if there’s someone you’ve never told, consider letting them know. In a few years, you’ll look back and have the comfort of knowing that you said everything that you wanted.
