Slow Down and Reconnect

By Caleigh - Coach

CaleighIn today’s fast paced society, I fear that we have forgotten how to slow down and connect with each other. Phone calls have become text messages, text messages have become “likes” on Facebook and Instagram. While social media can be a great tool to keep up with what people in our lives are doing, it shouldn’t be the only way we stay connected. We’re all busy, but I challenge you to think about what’s important when it comes to relationships with family and friends.

In the time it took you to pull your phone out and send a “happy birthday!” text message to your brother, could you have put a card in the mailbox in the same amount of time? Your best friend that moved to a new city and doesn’t know anyone, have you picked up the phone to ask how they’re doing and let them know that you’re thinking of them? Your sister that keeps asking to meet for lunch, does she have something she needs to talk about in person to someone that she trusts?

Take time to slow down and make relationships a priority. Support networks are what keep us going in times of need, and to keep those networks strong, we all have to reach out to each other.

I couldn't agree more. It makes me think of this Thoreau quote which could not be truer today than it was to him so many years ago.
"Men have become the tools of their tools."
— Henry David Thoreau
