Member Success Story: Ruth
What type of change did you make in your life? Or what goal did you set out to achieve? As I entered into retirement, I realized that exercise took on a different role in life to keep my body working. It needed movement, which helped me to make a goal to increase my strength, which in turn would help me maintain my mobility and improve my balance issues. My trainer, Terri, has helped me attain my goals, Not only through each of my workouts, but also by educating me on what my body's needs are at my age.
What are some challenges you faced that elicited that change or that made you want to go for that goal? What barriers did you run into while pursuing your goal? Initially, I began working out because I knew as I entered my twilight years that my body needed movement to stay healthy; however, I was also experiencing some health issues that involved my heart and required surgery. I was nervous about surgery because I didn't want to lose any of the progress I had gained prior to surgery. The biggest barrier I faced were the mental barriers associated with surgery and frustration of being forced to slow down; however, through consistent exercise (after I received the okay from docs), that progress came back with further improvement.
What are some factors that helped you make that change or that helped you achieve your goal? List any specific services you used at the DAHLC. The staff at the DAHLC have been immensely helpful, especially my trainer, Terri. My trainer, Terri, has gone above and beyond in so many ways. She works around any health issues and educates her members on their bodies and what they can do to improve their health, strength, mobility, and any goal they have set for themselves.
