As a 15 year old girl on the high school track team (discus, triple jump, and middle distance), I learned to walk proudly into the free weight area and not give a rip if any boy was watching. It took one wasted practice to realize in order to gain strength I was going to have to get over that unfounded embarrassment and worry of looking like an idiot. As I grew to be a senior captain, I made it my duty to pull the nervous freshmen girls into the weight room and show them they can be comfortable too.
