September Staff Spotlight: Kay
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role here at the DAHLC: I was born and raised in Winchester England, the youngest of four siblings. At age 18 I went to nursing school and eventually became an Air Ambulance nurse and charge nurse on the ICU/ Trauma unit at the Royal London hospital. My husband and I came to the States in 1992 and lived in Boston. We then spent 4 years in NYC/New Jersey and one year in North Carolina before settling here in Rochester in 2000. My husband is a Cardiologist; our reason for being here at Mayo. I am mother to three girls and one boy. All adults now. I went to NYC in 2017 to train as a yoga teacher before returning to teach at the DAHLC. My role at the DAHLC is to impart my knowledge and benefits of yoga to whomever attends my class or cares to ask. I love teaching and it's always my goal to have clients leave the class knowing something new.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? When I was at school I wanted to attend art college and study theatrical design and make-up. I was an assistant nurse the summer after leaving school and made the decision to attend nursing school instead. I often wonder how different my life would be if I'd chosen the other path.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekends? Have an impromptu dinner party with friends and share a good bottle of wine.
What is your favorite season? My favorite season is Spring. I love everything being lush and green and fresh.
Favorite thing to do with family? My favorite thing to do with family is travel. We have been privileged to travel far and wide together.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go? That's so easy to answer. ITALY! We have been several times and it remains my favorite place for history, scenic beauty, people and food. It just cannot be beat.
