April Staff Spotlight: Megan
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your role here at the DAHLC: I am a group fitness instructor here at the DAHLC. I currently teach aqua, swimming and cycling classes.
I have been instructing at the DAHLC for about seven years. Prior to this, I was a middle school English teacher for 13 years. I currently co-coach the Century Girls' Swimming/Diving team with my husband. We have been coaching in Rochester together for over 20 years. In my spare time, I love being a mom to our 13-year-old daughter and 9-year-old rescue dog, Henry.
What is your favorite way to spend your free time? In my free time, I love being active. I try to spend as much time outside as possible. I really enjoy reading, non-fiction preferred. I enjoy the small moments of life ... a good cup of coffee, the sunrise, a brief connection with a friend or stranger.
Favorite book or movie: Gulp ... Dirty Dancing! It is a Patrick Swayze thing! 🙂
Favorite Food: Sandwiches. Any kind, any variety.
Favorite Vacation: I love the beach, and I love swimming in the ocean. It never, ever gets old for me.
What is one of your favorite memories from the past year? This past year, I moved my parents to Rochester to live closer to us. I am grateful that the move went well, and I am grateful for this gift of getting to spend time with them at this stage of life.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring? Sunscreen, sandwiches (!) and a comfortable beach chair!
What is one thing most members don’t know about you? I completed an Ironman in 2017. It was one of the most physically demanding and mentally challenging goals I have ever completed in my life. The journey to get to the starting line was probably more impactful than the actual day. I learned a lot about myself. 🙂
