September Staff Spotlight: Tom Finch

Tom has been a key employee on our Member Service Team for 16+ years. He worked for the DAHLC when our facility was still operating in the Ozmun and Generose Buildings. Tom points out, at that time, our entire facility would have fit in one of the current DAHLC locker rooms. Here are a few things about Tom you may not know.

Hidden talents or hobbies: I have been a beach volleyball player, a volleyball coach, a rock climber, and a climbing instructor.

Go to dance move: That one that you grab your ankle and flail. Killer.

Your favorite way to spend a day off: Start with Coffee and reading, then adventure to small towns my wife and I don’t know much about and explore. And things like flea markets are great day-off targets too. Of course, getting some exercise is super important on days off for your mental well-being.

Who inspires you: Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Ricky Gervais, the cast of Queer Eye, Conan O’Brien, etc.

Favorite movie: I love movies, so this is tough…. Braveheart, Jaws, The Avengers movies, Love Actually, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, Highlander, Cool Hand Luke, the list goes on….

Favorite food: Probably some kind of delicious stir fry with Quinoa or rice and peanut sauce. And chocolate chip cookie dough. Soooo good.

One thing most members don’t know about you: I was in the air on the way to California on 9/11 when the attacks happened.

What is the most exciting part about your job: Probably making people feel welcome and learning new names.
