A Workout YOU Can Do

By Desiree Ahrens

As a 15 year old girl on the high school track team (discus, triple jump, and middle distance), I learned to walk proudly into the free weight area and not give a rip if any boy was watching. It took one wasted practice to realize in order to gain strength I was going to have to get over that unfounded embarrassment and worry of looking like an idiot. As I grew to be a senior captain, I made it my duty to pull the nervous freshmen girls into the weight room and show them they can be comfortable too.

Today, I am lucky to continue this innate drive of mine to help all (whether male or female) feel comfortable in the free weight area by being a part of the health and wellness coach training and evaluation teams and teaching members proper form in equipment basics, exercise prescriptions, small group training, and women’s studio training.

Try this workout in the free weight area. It’s a quick, full body workout. To help YOU to feel comfortable in the free weight area, click on the links to see videos of a wonderful strength training role model (Terri) showing you correct form. Happy lifting!
