Please– join me in my running misery

By Desiree Ahrens

DAHLCWisdon23When I have a moment to myself at home I tend to make rash decisions. This notably occurred about 2 years ago when I just happened to be in a good mood while my three small kids were at grandma’s. Even though I had never given much thought to a marathon, I went ahead and registered for the Twin Cities Marathon. Eight months later, I shuffled across the finish line and immediately told my husband to never, under any circumstances, let me register for another marathon! (Seriously…the last 0.2 miles of a marathon? Totally unnecessary. I’ll stop at 26 thank you very much. Worse 0.2 miles of my life!) My husband managed to make it through 2014 while keeping this promise. However, it’s now 2015 and, once again, I found myself recently at home…in a good mood…alone…feeling strong…drinking my favorite coffee…I signed up for another one (Med-City Marathon in May). Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

This time I will be spending some time on the treadmill since I have become a winter running wimp. However, if you love to run outdoors, check out this new run route leaving and ending at the DAHLC. It will present you with just enough hills to make it more exciting than the treadmill. Don’t forget to swipe your badge at the front desk before you head out!
