HIIT (high intensity interval training) Training – is it for you?

By Heather Smith

DAHLC Strength-9556For anyone that knows me well, I really enjoy working out.  I have been active all of my life and am always looking to try new things to keep myself engaged.  After stepping into the Group Fitness realm as an instructor in 2009, I have tried as many class formats as any one person could dream of.  From Pilates to Yoga, hip hop dance to strength training, I cannot really say that I don’t like any class.  What I can tell you is one format that I have found to really stand out in the crowd is QuickFixx!

QuickFixx is a 30 minute class format that will have you working out in an entirely new way, especially if HIIT training is new for you. We provide 7 exercises, 30 seconds each with 10 seconds rest between them.  After the warm up, your first round of these exercises keeps you very preoccupied trying to learn or modify the movements.  All of the movements combine strength, cardiovascular, and core work at some degree.  You then repeat the rounds 4 additional times for a total of 5 rounds.  For me, it is usually by round 3 the entire focus changes.  My mind-body connection becomes intense as I am internally convincing myself to keep going all while keeping the integrity of each movement.  I often tell my students, “you can do anything for 30 seconds”.  It’s quite true in this format.  Even if you were to get through 2-3 rounds, you could still get an amazing all over body workout.

If you are feeling rushed in your day or finding it easy to skip a workout due to time, this 30 minute format is sure to capture your attention!
