Yoga Overview

Kerry, Yoga Instructor

Yoga is a process of stretching, balancing and strengthening using the connection of breath, mind, and body.  The word “yoga” simply means “union”.  Finding your class will greatly depend on your physical strengths as well as limitations. We here at the DAHLC feel very confident that we have the right class to fit everyone’s needs.  We want you to succeed and feel supported so please feel free to ask any of our yoga instructors for help in finding the right fit for you.

In a yoga class you will move in and out of poses called asanas (ah-sah-nahs). Depending on the class type, you may move from pose to pose with each breath or you may hold the pose for several breaths. Poses are done standing, sitting, laying, and kneeling. Some poses challenge your balance, some your strength, and others your flexibility. Class ends with a short relaxation called savasana (shah-vah-sah-nah). This leaves the body and mind feeling rejuvenated.
