Is there anyone who should not have an iDEXA scan?

By The DAHLC @dahlcsocialmedia

iDEXA scanning appears safe for nearly anyone. There are situations in which it may be inaccurate:

  • People having radioactive iodine thyroid treatment
  • People who have had a nuclear medicine study or a barium X-ray within the last 5 days
  • People with large amounts of metal in their bodies
  • People with significant arthritis of the spine

An iDEXA scan is permitted once every 92 day period.  iDEXA is not recommended for pregnant women.
